HollmChat Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 25, 2026

HollmChat is a free app built by Scott Cheezem. This policy explains what information the app handles and where it is stored. If you have any questions, contact [email protected].

HollmChat does not include third-party analytics or advertising SDKs. What happens to your conversations depends on the inference backend you choose; local inference keeps everything on your device.

Information stored by the app

HollmChat stores your chats, settings and related files in your private iCloud account:

  • Chats are stored as records in Apple’s CloudKit
  • Settings and related files are stored in iCloud Drive and the iCloud key-value store

This data lives in your private iCloud container. The developer cannot read, access, or collect it.

Inference and your data

HollmChat can run inference in several ways. What happens to your prompts and conversation context depends on which backend you configure:

  • Local inference: Models downloaded from Hugging Face run entirely on your device. Prompts and responses never leave your device.
  • Remote inference: When you connect to fireworks.ai, a server on your local network (such as LM Studio, oMLX or mlx-server), or any OpenAI-compatible endpoint, your prompts and conversation context are sent to that endpoint. Data sent to a third-party provider is governed by that provider’s privacy policy. Data sent to a server you run yourself stays under your control.

Built-in tools

HollmChat provides tools that capable models can use. When a tool is used, the relevant data is sent to the service that provides it:

  • Web search: search queries are sent to DuckDuckGo
  • Image search: results are rendered from third-party sources
  • Web fetch: retrieves the URLs requested during a conversation
  • MCP servers over HTTP: data is sent to the MCP servers you configure

Model downloads

When you download a model, the model files are fetched from Hugging Face. Hugging Face is a third-party service and its handling of that request is governed by its own terms and privacy policy.

Diagnostics and crash reports

If you have opted in to share analytics and crash data with app developers through your device settings, Apple may provide the developer with crash logs and diagnostic information. This is governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy. You can change this at any time in your device settings.

Children’s privacy

HollmChat does not knowingly collect personal information from children. The app does not collect personal information from any user, including children.
